Spring Parade of Homes House Tour

Welcome to the Spring Parade of Homes Tour! I'm super excited to be kicking this off...and super excited that it is finally Spring :) ...of course the weather feeling a little bit more Spring-like would much appreciated lol. I'm over the snow. I was over the snow in November, so that shows you how much I love it :)
Spring house tour via Thrifty and Chic

I love going to model homes and open houses and looking at how they are decorated. I also love blogs in general because you get to see into a ton of homes while staying in your jammies and not moving your butt off the couch :) We have pulled together 14 wonderful bloggers to show off their homes to you this week! So be sure to check out the bottom of this post for the links to their tours...and if they haven't happened yet, I'll be updating the links daily so be sure to check back..I promise, you will not be disappointed and you'll have plenty of eye candy :) ....and probably plenty of items to make your DIY list full for the next year.
Spring Parade of Homes House Tours from 14 amazing bloggers!
So, if you are new here...or simply have forgotten :) ...I bought this home back in 2009 brand new. But, it wasn't quite what I had envisioned for my home. I love it, don't get me wrong...but it was way way way too building grade-y for me. I've been in a process of decorating and redecorating and trying to add character to it the past 5 years. It's a work in progress, but I've been getting there wall by wall :)

First off, is my front room. I have a love-hate relationship with this room. I am currently in a love relationship. This room was Booooring with a capital B and lots of 'o's :) Super beige and nothing going for it. I added this white planked wall and moved around and added some new furniture plus added some gallery walls and now I love it. That coffee table is made from tree stumps which I think definitely adds some interest. Most of the things in this room have either been handmade or refurbished. Let's see how long this love relationship will last now ;)...I get bored with things quickly, so it's probably safe to hold your breath cuz I'm sure it won't be long lol

As you walk down the hall a little bit, you'll come into our living room. As you can probably tell, I love white and bright spaces. It drives me husband nuts cuz he likes dark and cozy spaces...I tell him daily "then you married the wrong girl". But I guess opposites attract :)

Sometimes I actually do have color in my home..sometimes :) But this Spring I decided to do an all neutral white and cream theme in here. It just feels so fresh to me.

This room is two stories, so it brings in a ton of light and is bordered by arches. It also opens up into the dining room and kitchen. The perfect great room but with enough of a division to make them all separate.

Welcome to my dining room :) This room doesn't change much so this picture is a little old but everything is practically the same. The cedar planked wall is an addition in attempt to add some character. I really made such a big difference, I love it in here.

Now for my master bedroom. This place is like waking up on a cloud. I love it. It's one of my most recently made over spaces but soon to get another big upgrade :) You'll have to stay tuned for that.

Mostly everything in this room was handmade or refurbished also. This room was originally done for $100 but with the added rug and bedspread that went up a little :)

Here's my master bathroom. It's just been slightly changed, this room will be on my 'update' list for awhile with lots of projects in the works :) ...'in the works' aka 'lots of projects in my mind'

One of my favorite rooms is the nursery. The babe is a little older now but this room remains pretty much the same....minus the lamppost of course. And blackout curtains...learned my lesson on that :)

Here's the guest bathroom. This bathroom was completely made over for just $60. It was super dark, but I added some board and batten and accessories to brighten it up.
Bathroom makeover for under $60!
This guest bedroom is also my office. It's actually more my office than anything since no guest has really ever stayed in it. This room is currently under going a big amount of change. I'm super excited to show you all!
guest room and office combo
Here's the office portion of the same room. Once again, pretty much everything in this room was a DIY project or refurbished.

Now for the room that I don't show anybody :) It's a thorn in my side. I love it but I hate it and I can't decide what to do about it. So, there are a few projects also in the works here. I guess my whole house is an ongoing project truthfully :) ...even if it doesn't need to be, I find ways to make it be. Here's my kitchen...I can't decide whether or not to paint the cabinets or not. The are knotty alder and beautiful but just not my style. I can't seem to find any strength in me to actually paint over them. So there lies a conundrum. I want this kitchen to be brighter and lighter...and white :) But don't want to paint the cabinets lol. This will be my main focus this year on projects in hopes to get this kitchen looking the way I want :) As you can see, it does not match the rest of my house...at all.
knotty alder cabinets
So, your thoughts. To paint the cabinets or to not paint them? They will be a pain since they are knotty alder and will require a ton and ton of sanding and hole filling :)

Well, I hope you enjoyed my house tour! Now's your chance to lick your chops on some other wonderful homes :) Once again, these links will be updated daily as they get posted!

  2. I think it's hilarious that your husband likes dark/moody and you love light and bright. Your house is beautiful! Love all the added touches (and do I spy a DIY coffee filter light in the office?).

    1. Oh yes. That would be a coffee filter light that is almost waaaay to big :)

  5. Your home is beautiful, but I agree with your husband that some more coziness is needed, maybe in the form of more stained wood accents? That said, I would suggest that you do paint your kitchen cabinets white, but leave the island as is. With the black counters and appliances, white would be stunning. Maybe you can leave the knots and just distress the cabinets, which would leave a lot of character in my opinion.

    1. I just noticed in today's post at theletteredcottage.net, they have pictures of cabinets painted over a knotty wood:) I think it looks great!

    2. Thanks Jeanine! I'm definitely going to stop and look at them :) I'm thinking that I might try painting the island first and then see how that looks before I do the big-shebang and do all the cabinets. I do like the idea of keeping the knots in and distressing

  6. Such a soft serene and gorgeous home. I adore every single detail. I'm a huge fan of white kitchen so I'm saying paint them ;)
Thanks so much for inviting me to participate in the home tours.

  7. I love love love your home Alicia! One of my favorites in blogland for sure! I never get tired of your great room - it's stunning I love the light and bright feel and all the other spaces are equally as beautiful :) I'm also a big fan of white kitchens so I'd take on the task of painting the cabinets. And with your neutral style I think they are begging to be painted! Thanks so much for having me on this spring tour with you!

  8. What if you white washed your cabinets in your kitchen? It wouldn't completely cover the character of them but brighten the space?

    1. That's a wonderful idea! I'll how have to try that on one of the cabinets and see how they turn out looking. Thank you!! :)

  9. What a gorgeous house! I love how every room just flows into each other and how you've layered so well. You're totally right about the kitchen, it does feel so different than the rest of the house. I think painting the cabinets white would make you SO much happier... and then stainless appliances would transform the kitchen into a completely different room. When I saw your kitchen it reminded me how the simple transformation Katie Bower (Bower Power) did to her kitchen and what a dramatic, light and bright, difference it made! :) LOVE. YOUR. BLOG. :)

  12. Your home is gorgeous! I think the dining room is my favorite - love the texture of the plank wall.

  13. Lovely, lovely! It's so bright and airy. I understand the desire to paint those cabinets - the brown and dark counters just don't "fit" with the rest of the house (but are beautiful on their own!). Can't wait to see what you do!

  14. I second the white wash idea. The knotty pine would still have lots of character, and no hole filling! If it ends up NOT being white enough for you, you could always paint (and sand and fill!) later.

  15. So beautiful Alicia! I love how bright and light and airy it feels. It must be so calm and peaceful to live in a space like yours. I always use so much color... I can't help it. I am a color girl. But you definitely have shown me how stunning neutrals can be! I had no idea:) Wow!! I love the dining room plank wall - gorgeous!! If the rest of your beautiful home is any indication then can't wait to see what you do with your kitchen!

    1. Your sweet Krista. It's funny because I then look at your home and see all the color and just fall in love and think I should add more color to mine :)

  16. Your house is beautiful!! I have to agree with the white washing idea. Start with that and if it is not bright enough for you then you can get down and dirty. Start with the easiest way first and go from there.

  17. Lovely home! Can I ask where your couch is from? I've been searching for one in exactly that style!

  18. How stunning! I love, love, love your neutrals! You're totally right-- it gives it such a fresh feel! Thanks so much for organizing this tour! It has been so fun to get to see everyones' homes! Have a wonderful week!

  20. I am a regular follower of your blog, and I love your DIY tutorals! Your house looks lovely for spring! I was writing to suggest maybe you give your cabinets a white or light grey wash instead of painting them. Then I saw that someone else suggested a white wash as well! You seem to be not wanting to paint them, yet you do...so if you did a wash the beautiful grain of the wood would still be visible, but it would lighten everything up! Whatever you decide, I am sure it will be lovely! Can't wait to see what you do with the space! I painted my honey oak cabinets a little over a year ago. I used Rustoleums cabinet transformations. I painted them a buttery yellow, and then I applied and rubbed off a glaze. I love them!

    1. I'm so glad everyone is suggesting whitewashing them. I never even thought of it. It was just either painting or not. I think that's the perfect direction to go...for the first round at least :) see how I like them and if they are white enough lol

  22. What a beautiful home! I too enjoy light spaces. I just recently switched out the darker curtains in my room for sheer panels for spring!

  23. I love how calm your house feels :) Have you considered keeping the cabinets the beautiful wood tone they are and replacing the dark counter tops with something lighter and maybe swapping the black appliances for a SS look? You could even take a few doors off to make them feel less 'heavy' and show off white dishes/accessories to further lighten up the space. I know how it's a conundrum to paint or not to paint! I'm having the same internal battle myself : ) Whatever you do I know it will be beautiful! ♥

  24. Wow! This is stunning. I am currently struggling with the colors versus neutrals... I use all neutrals then think, "Do I need more pops of color?" I came over from Krista's and love her color, too!!!! But seeing your house encourages me so much that neutrals CAN work!! Absolutely gorgeous!

  25. We are redoing our kitchen right now too. I LOVE a white on white kitchen, but with 4 little ones running around, I am too afraid of them getting ruined. I decided on black cabinets with a marble countertop. I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  26. Leave the cabinets wood. It's warm and inviting, a good combination for a kitchen. You can pull in your whites with wall color, decor, accessories, area rugs, etc. If you pull it off well (which I'm sure you'll do amazing) maybe you'll start the return-to-wood trend. :)
