I am a summer girl at heart. The hotter temps, the better! You can find me all day long out here on my porch or on my backyard patio. I bring out my laptop to work, or a book to read. As the summer has progressed though, I realized how nice it would be to do a little "late summer" cleaning on my porch, and make it even more inviting. It wasn't awful, but sometimes just a few new things make all the difference.
I made these outdoor patio chairs 5 years ago for this space, and they are still holding strong! I actually impressed that the paint has held up pretty well too. I found these cushions to go with them from Target. I hit a sale and got them for super cheap back when I made the chairs.
For the refresh, I changed out the old rug with this new one. This is actually it's second year. But I did decide to layer this jute rug on top of it just recently. I bring it in when the storms come through to keep it looking nice!
The two wood and metal pieces flanking the french doors were found at a local antique store. I don't thing they are antique, but I do love the character they add here.
I also added these new(ish) pillows to the chairs. They were actually on my back patio, but decided to bring them up here. These are covers I found on Amazon and just put them on some outdoor pillows. They have lasted great for two years so far!
I had to snap this picture coming out of the door today. It just made me smile. I think every space in your house should make you smile when you walk by it! I know not all of mine do, but I try my hardest to make them get that way. If you only knew how many times I just shut the door on some rooms/places in my house to ignore them :)
One of my favorite things about my patio now is that Aero, our kitty, loves to sit on the chairs. A long time ago, there was a neighbor cat that would sleep on these in the early morning. I only ever caught him doing it once, but I saw his hair on it all the time. It's my favorite thing to have him curl up on this chair while I'm on the other. Or better yet, to open the door in the morning to let him and find him sleeping here.
Also, here's a glimpse of the other side of this space. Don't mind all the cobwebs...haha, just getting ready for Halloween! No but, for real. These little moth web things kill me; they are all over the side of my porch. I take them down...they come back up, and on and on. It's a losing battle so far.
A long time ago...well 5 years ago and before I built those chairs, this is what my porch looked like. It was a serious waste! I didn't even sit on those chairs. I can't recall really ever being out here.
And now it's my oasis away from the chaos inside! Next step is to paint those doors. They have seen better days. I really want to paint them black, but I'm thinking that won't match my house especially since the garage to the left of the porch is this same brown. What do you think? Paint it a darker brown or black? ...or white? I don't know! And that's why it's still like this, ha!
In just a couple of weeks, this area will be covered in fall and pumpkins. I hate saying that, because I'm a summer girl....and fall is just a precursor to ugly winter. And we have winter around here for like 8 months. It's annoying and ridiculous and I need to move! :) haha
