Easy Way To Clean Crayon Off A Couch

Easy way to clean crayon off a couch using Alcohol
We introduced coloring to our sweet babe earlier this year, and she loves it. Loves it so much she likes to try to color on everything. I knew this was inevitable, but I had high hopes it may not happen :) Well, the crayon marks on my windows, walls, clothes, TV and couches proved me wrong. I am really careful watching her with them, but somehow one of them gets hidden and she finds it hours or days later and yep...that's when the havoc begins.

So, the other day she decided to color all over the side of our couch. Awesome. It wasn't the pink or the yellow crayon which you could barely see (although I think there is some pink in there)...it had to be the dark purple one. Yep. So, I decided to try something and see if it worked, and it totally did! So, for all you moms out there with crayon all over your couches, hopefully this will work for you too :) So here's her beautiful artwork:

To clean it is super simple. Just use alcohol. No, don't drink it and hope you forget...use rubbing alcohol.

I just put it in a small spray bottle and mist it all on the stain. (PS. I have a microfiber couch.) I use the alcohol on all other stains on my couch also and it works wonderful.

Once you mist it on, just take a white clothe and start scrubbing at the stain. I usually scrub until the alcohol starts to evaporate.

One of the reasons why alcohol works compared to something like water on microfiber is because it evaporates quicker therefor less chances of leaving the horrible water rings we all hate so much :) I'm sure it also breaks down the stain differently too.

I sometimes use a scrubber at the end to 'fluff' up the fiber on the couch again. And there you go. Easy way to remove crayon from a couch! ...or any stain at all really :) Here's the after! Can't see it at all:

Now that I know this works so well, I guess I can be a little more forgiving with her uses of crayons :)

  1. What a fabulous idea. I need to try that on a couple of stains I have on my chair.

  2. It looks so easy and would be great to have the stains out this way. However I think that it is a little more complicated. Your couch is white but mine is green and I am concerned that this technique could change the colour. And what about the fibers? I think that the aggressive formula of the ribbing alcohol could damage the surface. Do you think that I have to worry about this or you think I can still try it out?
