Free Remnant Art

Don't you just hate when you get one of those creative bugs stuck in you that make you want to decorate but you don't have anything to decorate with and you're too lazy tired to go to the store and get anything?

I had one of those days a few weeks ago.
I love my front room.
I thought it was fresh, crisp, bright and clean.
Then, for some reason, one day I looked at it and realized it only really had two colors. White and blue/grey.
(and some small black accents, not enough to give it any weight though).
The white/blue started looking 'medical' to me. I don't know how else to describe it.
There was just something missing.

Color!

So. Thats when the creative bug really started bugging me.
So, I went into my wood remnants and found a piece of plywood and cut it into three even sections.
I then found a two by four and cut that also.
I have a plethora of remnant fabric - which by the way I recommend having, it comes in handy often!
So, I found some fabric that would cover the plywood and a contrasting fabric to cover the 2x4s.

Then grabbed the good ol' staple gun:

Covered the wood pieces like so:

oh, and nailed a nail holder (i'm not sure what thats called) onto the back.

I then screwed in a  fabric covered 2x4 into the fabric covered plywood.
Did this two more times.
And ....there you have it!
Free art!

I shopped my house for some accessories to put on my new "shelves".
Even managed to fit a book on one :)

After all was said and done, I used some more remnant fabric to cover two pillows
and changed out the flowers.
Oh. And added a rug - $20 at Ikea! I couldn't help myself.

For the most part.
I think its a good change.
The best thing about it is that I can change it back whenever I want or change the colors easily to my hearts desire.
Which we all know will happen sooner than later, knowing me.

  5. I love this look! You've inspired me to makeover our family room :) Where on earth did you find that rug at IKEA for only $20 though? Do you have a link you can share? And where did you find those adorable curtains? Thanks for your help!
