Laundry Room Redo

The Laundry Room. Hmmm..A room where clothes are washed and dried. Doesn't seem like it should be anything special.....oh but I beg to differ.
About a year ago when we were looking for a house, I knew I wanted the laundry room to be something special. Weird, yes I know. But that's what I wanted....but unfortunately, that's not exactly what I got. Although I guess I can't complain too much, I could have my washer and dryer stuck in a closet somewhere instead of in a garage pass through. But this house was calling my name even without the 'perfect' laundry room. So I got stuck with this:

Pretty ain't she?
Yeah. I thought so too. And what the heck? Ten foot ceilings and no cabinets? It just didn't make sense to me. I guess I couldn't question the builders because they were good at not thinking 'girl'. There are also no closets in the house at all (apart from the closet in each bedroom). No linen closet, no coat closet, no storage space. Oh, and no pantry. Hrmph.

ANYWAY. I decided to make my garage passthrough/laundry room/mud room as close to the one I really wanted....aside from knocking out a few walls and adding a hundred square feet or so. And it came out really great :)

I added my own shelf since the builders were to cheap to not put any in it didn't have any. I primed and spray painted partical board cut to size and put it on two beautimus brackets. Added a few baskets to hide the dog stuff and laundry sheets. Put in a few uneeded accessories (I mean, this IS a laundry room after all, what do you really need to accessorize?)

Although I loved my new found appreciation for the room, after living with this look for a few days, I decided that something had to change. I moved a few things around, took a few more pictures, still something was not right. Don't you just hate that?
And like.a.lightbulb.went.off.inside.of.my.head I figured it out. :)
And now I love this room even more. And door to it actually stays open :)
I know, I know. It wasn't that big of a change. But it totally made a big difference.

And on a side note, is it possible to have a love affair with spraypaint? I love.....I mean..loooove...spraypaint. Its an amazing thing. If I counted right, I'm pretty sure I have about seven things in here that were spraypainted. I may just spraypaint the washer and dryer black next...hmm. Wouldn't that look tough? Just kidding ;)

  1. Very nice-laundry rooms are definitely my least favorite room in the house (hate doing laundry), but at least you have something pretty to look at.

Who am I kidding? I have a ton of things to do. This will be added to the "when we have a house" file. :)

Very pretty. I love to do laundry and would love it even better in this room! We're in a rental right now, and the laundry set up is in the dark, creepy basement. :(
