I'm going to tell you a story. A story about a girl whose life is all about summer. The hotter the better. The sunnier, the merrier. This girl counts the days until the first moment the summer sun hits her skin. This girl never wants summer to leave; it's like an inevitable breakup every year around this time and it's seriously heartbreaking. It's me...the girl is me :) Did you figure that out? Now you know how I feel about summer, it makes it so very hard to bring out fall decor when it's still 90 degrees out. As I sat there this week putting all my summer decor away, and brought out the fall, I thought that the next time I remove the pumpkins and fall florals I'll be putting up Christmas in it's place. And truthfully, that hurts my soul. That makes awful winter that much more tangible...almost like you can feel like, smell it.

That all being said, I was going to share with you my late summer home tour :) Just kidding. I decided to put up my fall decor, without the pumpkins. I wanted just the colors of fall. As I sat in my front room, staring into the abyss of what the heck to do next....I then left it for a few days to gain some inspiration. And you know what? All the inspiration kept coming back in the form of pumpkins. I tried my hardest not decorate with them...I did. You should have seen my living room in this half decorated mess. It just wasn't happening. So....as you will soon see I went from no pumpkins to all the pumpkins real quick :) haha.

This year for my fall decor, I naturally started with brown tones, whites, and greens. Most of my decor leans heavily towards this combination. It's the perfect set of neutrals...yep, green is technically a neutral and an accent color for me :)

I also made some changes in here. They don't feel like much, but since this room hasn't changed much in the past few years, they are significant to me. First is the secretary hutch that is now in this corner. I also moved a larger accent chair into the other corner by the fireplace. Also, the addition of this rug...it brings in great texture.

And I can't forget the addition of our sweet new kitty, Aero. He looks sweet here, but not two seconds before and after this picture was taken was he clawing the heck out of the rug :/

I was tweaking this place up until this afternoon, and this rug was the last addition. It added the perfect extra layer that was missing. It was a find from Hobby Lobby in their spring line.

I also changed out my dough bowl for this old fruit crate. I brought in the amber bottles, a mix of vintage and new.

I added some old wood spindles from a antique chair I rescued...and then demolished :) Those books aren't as old as you may think! They are actually dollar store books. I have the full tutorial on how to make these in the Autumn Issue of Country Sampler Farmhouse Style magazine, along with some fun other projects! It has so many other wonderful fall decor ideas for the home!

And here's the look at the pumpkin crazy. Also, a look at my vintage amber bottle collection on the mantel. I put them together with the books and greenery for a vintage fall mantel along with my great, great grandmother's mirror. I love that that mirror sits in my house, and my kids look into it and see their reflection just like their great, great, great grandmother did. It's pieces like these that give me all the feels! It has some smoked damage from a fire, but it survived and I'm so glad to have it :)

Alright, here's a better look at all the pumpkins! I took out my candlesticks since it felt like there was too much going on with the amber bottles...then I just went crazy with the pumpkins instead :) It was fun creating this look and something I may replicate in my main living room. I brought in some green pumpkins to balance out all the white pumpkins and to bring in the greenery from above.

I switched out my dark brown ladder in this corner for the white one. This helped make the fireplace the main focal point. That mantel is such a beautiful piece, the more attention it has, the better! Can you believe that was a classifieds score for $70?!

There are some angles I don't share often, this is one of them. It may be an angle I share more as I get used to shooting it from the corner and the floor :) ha! This hutch is just so pretty, I wanted to highlight it.

I don't want to forget this hutch in the other corner. Yep there are two of them in here! Serious though you guys. I need to stop scrolling through facebook marketplace...I have no room for furniture! This little corner ties into the rest of the room with the amble bottles and greenery once again.

Here are my tips for decorating for fall...even if it is a little early for me:
  • Add layers! I love layering up my rugs, blankets, pillows, pictures etc.
  • Bring in texture. I brought it in with the rug, the book pages, the greenery, the wood, and the sweater pillows amongst other things.
  • Keep the color combo simple. I only tend to decorate with 1 accent color. In this case, green. I kept the other colors neutral tones with browns, tans, whites, and creams. Keeping your colors simple with a base color and one or two accent colors brings notice to the pieces.
  • Decorate with what makes you feel the most comfortable. I tried to decorate for fall without pumpkins and it seriously gave me so much stress! ha! I fell back to what I know, and it ended up working out just fine :)
  • Make it cozy! Bring in elements like rugs, curtains, pillows, blankets, and candles.
  • Have you space tell a story. Bring in elements from your past or your family or something special to you in the present. Make your space mean something to you, that will make it all that more special when you walk by it.
  • Make it better than last year. Keep tweaking it until you find the perfect harmony with everything. It took me about two weeks to figure out my groove with this room. Most of my rooms are in a natural state of "tweaking" :) You don't have to get it right the first time. If it feels off, move things around, edit or bring something new and unexpected in.
