How Do I Keep My House So White? DIY Stain Fighter

My go-to way of getting rid of stains! DIY Stain Fighter using ingredients you already have at home!

I get asked all the time about how I keep my house so white with two toddlers, a dog, and a grown kid (aka my husband). Well, truthfully. I don't lol. I can probably clean a lot better than I do and more often, but when a huge stain occurs, I have to be on top of it. I have one little secret that I use on EVERYTHING to keep things stain free and white :) And for me, it works every single time.

So, I'm sure part of the whole stain problem is my own. I let my kids eat and drink in our living room. We drink this dark green chlorophyll water that stains like mad. It's always all over the couches, clothes and definitely carpet. They also love berries. So, you can image what a 1 year old looks like when she gets a hold of some berries :)

Example number 1. Berry stain (which sat there for 4 days mind you :) )

So, what's my little secret? It's hydrogen peroxide and dish soap! I use either the pure and clear Palmolive or Dawn, both work just the same. I've seen that most people say you have to use the blue Dawn to get the results. I have never used it, and my stains come out too :)

I have no specific equation for the mixture. I just pour about 1 cup of peroxide into an old spray bottle, then squirt about a tablespoons worth of dish soap into it. I then shake it lightly. When a stain shows it's ugly head, like this one below, I then grab it and go to town!

This is that evil chlorophyll water we drink. I'm telling you, it stains everything. No fun :)

I probably sprayed more of the solution that I should have on this stain, but this rug is shag carpet and it got way in deep. So, I felt like I had to spray more and more to get to the bottom of the fibers. I then took a wet cloth, and scrubbed away until the stain started to disappear.

And it worked! I will let you know, that it gets it pretty clean. So clean that you'll start to notice how dirty the rest of the carpet is around the stain :)

I also use this on clothing stains. I just spray it onto the stain before I put it in the wash. My daughter spilled hot chocolate all over a new white sweater one time. I freaked out of course, but was completely amazed that it came out using this solution. I also use it on my chairs and upholstered furniture. I of course would advise to check colorfastness before you start spraying it on something you really care about :) It has worked on everything I have used it on, but that doesn't mean it will work on everything you try to use it on :)

  2. Wow. I obviously cant use that on our filthy, disgusting salmon coloured carpet cause it would leave bleached spots, but i love the way it cleans whites! My carpet is going this summer. I'm so over it! :)

  3. Looking forward to trying it. I have trouble with yellowing on whites as well. Have you tried this on them or have any other method for that sort of stain?

  4. Wow this is really a useful thing.. Everyone wants to keep their house white and clean. But it is obvious to have stains though we are careful about it. Thanks for sharing this here. Very helpful
