How to clean grease with baby oil

how to clean stubborn off appliances including microwaves and stoves!

I had a lot of people over back when we had the babe's blessing and so I did a lot of cleaning. A ton of cleaning. And it was at this time that I didn't realize how nasty the area above my stove got. It was completely full of grease and grime. Disgusting. The microwave looked like it took the brunt of it, or maybe it was just easier to see on it. Well, I spent hours trying to clean the grease off the microwave, stove and cabinets. The best method I used to do this was hot soapy water. It took a lot of elbow grease and still didn't get everything up. See the picture below:

This is the stuff that wouldn't come off. Gross! It looks like I didn't even try cleaning.

Well, I met with some girls the other day and we were discussing cleaning methods, and this awesome idea came up. Cleaning grease with baby oil. How smart is that? So I had to try it!

I just put some oil on a paper towel and started rubbing the grease. And it came right off. Right off! I couldn't believe it. That stubborn grease that wouldn't come up with hours of scrubbing with hot soapy water, and here it comes off with a swipe of some baby oil. Figures.

On some of the spots, I did have to put a little elbow grease into and rub pretty hard, or even use my finger nail to get it up, but the baby oil helped removed it completely after that.

I haven't had my microwave this shiny in years (don't mind the crack under the handle the hubs refuses to admit he made....:) )

You can leave it oil covered. The plus to this, it'll be easier to clean the grease off later because none will stick to it :) The minus...dust and dog hair will cling to it more. And we all know about my dog and his hair, so that wasn't going to happen lol.

So, next I just took my 'all purpose' cleaner (1 part vinegar, 2 parts water) and cleaned the oil right off. I did add a squirt of dish soap to this one mixture to help removed the oil.

And there you have it! The easiest way to clean off grease from your appliances :) And your house will smell so yummy too. Who doesn't like the smell of baby oil??

  3. Cracked door? You might want to replace it if its badly cracked, I'd be freaking out at the possibility of leaking radiation....

  11. Cleaning off the grease from cooking is fine, but my concern is leaving an oil on the finish that will heat up when you use the appliance (microwave, toaster over). I would think the household cleaner like vinegar and water would be a must, especially on a toaster oven door.

    1. True. I cleaned the oven door on the inside with baby oil and did not clean the oil afterwards. When I used the oven it smelled like burnt lamp oil :-(, so I had to clean the hot door with dishliquid pronto...

  15. I found the best way was with a paste of baking soda and a bit of water.

  16. I also use baby oil to clean and polish to a bright shine, all of my chrome faucets, etc. Makes them really shiny and makes them easier to clean again later.

  23. It is a pivotal moment in kitchen design: While stainless steel is still the dominant look, there are clear signals it has outworn its welcome, even with no clear successor in place. Rinnai Malaysia

  26. I tried baby oil today to clean the exterior surface of my microwave and my stove. I found that while it worked well on the finger prints on the microwave, I still needed to do more to clean the stove and fan hood above the stove. After wiping down the dials on the stove with baby oil, I went over them with a baking soda paste and it was the baking soda that worked best to get these clean. Baking soda is my go to cleaner and I keep a shaker of it handy beside my sink. It works great to clean my glass stove top when a pot boils over (another tip I found on Pinterest). For most things, clean up with baking soda requires very little elbow grease. :)

  27. I grew up using Lysol for cleaning everything. Living on my own I got seduced into trying every new cleaner that came on the market. 45 years later I've returned to Lysol and am happy once again. I mix the concentrate in a spray bottle or bucket and use it for cleaning everything but my dishes. I'll never switch again. Anyone out there want 5 boxes of cleaners, hardly used? Cheap!
