Vinyl Record Cabinet to Updated Storage

I've been knee deep in projects this week. Literally. I've decided to conquer my office. If you would even call it an office anymore. haha. Its more like a complete mess of randomness. And, yes, its about a 11x13 room full of stuff knee deep....thats where the literal translation comes in. If you don't believe me, just wait :) I'll show you a picture soon.

Anyway. I haven't really found time to blog because of this conquest :) Although, once its all done....I'll have stuff to blog about for like a year, so thats nice. Alas, only a few of said projects are complete and I don't have any 'after' pictures yet, so lets get on with things.
repurpose vinyl record holder
I was given a small little vinyl record cabinet a few years back and had it sit at my mom's house until last year sometime. I finally brought it home and had it sit in my garage for another few months :) This is what usually happens with most of the stuff I acquire. Its one of those things thats like..."hmmm. maybe I'll use it. Yes. I guess I'll take it." and then months and months later its still sitting there. I have a basement full of stuff like this right now. Why would I say 'no' if I know it has great possibilities? Anyways. This was one of those times.
Here's the before, of course, just sitting in my garage::::
So last year, I decided to fix it all up, give it a good coat of paint and put it in the corner of my living room. I put it in there just to put it in there. No real reason for it, just that I had an newly empty corner and that would fit perfectly. Oh, and the color would add a little accent into my living room.
Ever since I put it my living room, its been an eyesore. The color wasn't the color I was hoping for. I couldn't put anything really on top of it unless it was white, brown, or black. I figure, if you aren't completely happy with something, why have it around?
Well, I liked the storage it offered so I wanted it around. The next thing was...if you aren't completely happy with something...paint it! haha. So I did. White of course. Now it blends in perfect with the rest of the room.
And the storage part??? Perfect to hold all my magazines and catalogues. Oh and its a great mail sorter also!
In the end, in an attempt to add more color in my living room, it was a complete fail. I'll just stick to adding color through easily changeable accent pieces like pillows, curtains, and blankets :)

  2. This is beautiful! I'm the same way with color and usually revert back to neutral. I seem to add color with textiles instead! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Love love love it! One of the things I like about you, is that you build stuff! You use power tools. My husband cringes every time I pull out the drill or the ladder. I think I am going to have to do what you did and build a little hallway table during his work hours. Won't he be surprised. Thanks for sharing what you do. It is quite inspiring!
