Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
I've learned one thing this past holiday season:
don't get sick ☺
Not as easy as it sounds. I'm still getting over it. I'm not sure what I have, but I can tell you this much, its totally not fun and I don't recommend having it.
I've gotten colds in the past, but this thing has totally wiped me out.
I mean, I couldn't even add numbers in my head when it was at its worst☺
Pathetic.
Oh well, hopefully this new year will bring me good health.

Between my time being under the weather and family parties, I was actually able to accomplish one thing I've wanted to do for awhile.
No, it wasn't the board and batten I was suppose to do last week in our front room, or painting my bedroom, or putting up more molding.....(no, I'm not angry at all that my week off was spent laying in bed all day, instead of doing something productive.....can you tell?)

Back to the point, I finally made a bench for the foot of my bed!

And even better. cost me under $20 to do.

I grabbed some plans from Ana at Knock Off Wood
They can be found here.
And yes....If you really looked at the link, the plans are for a console table.
Which by the way, is gorge.
But I wanted a bench....but not just any bench.
So I took those plans, shrunk it down to 18" and added a few more support beams on the bottom shelf so I could have some baskets on it without them teetering over and got the perfect look I was going for!

Here's what it looked like bare bones.

And after!

I painted the bottom half linen white and the top I stained dark walnut.
I must say....it totally makes the room.
I now I have more storage! Can't beat that!

Creating this only took me two hours. The staining and painting of course took a little more time to do.
I loved it so much, I made another one for my mom and stained it all dark walnut.
Wish I had a picture ☺
Oh well.
Until next time!

And if you want more details on how I did this, just follow Ana's design plans for the console table, just cut the legs down to 18" and create two of the middle beams for the outsides and just screw in a 1x3 for the middle. Easy peasy!

  2. Sorry you've been sick--but the table looks fabulous!!!

My husband and I drool over Ana White's blog. We can't wait until we're back in our house (we're temporarily renting) so we can get building. :)
