7 Decorating Tricks I Used to Create This Berry Inspired Summer Table

Every summer I find myself wanting to bring a little more whimsy into our dining room. This year? It was all about berries.

I've been seeing little strawberry touches everywhere lately, but instead of going overboard, I wanted this table to feel collected, vintage, and like it had slowly come together over the years. A little cottage charm, a little English countryside, and lots of layers.

The funny thing is, the piece that started it all wasn't the pitchers or even the strawberries...

It was this gorgeous vintage lace tablecloth that I found for just $12. Once I brought it home, everything else seemed to fall into place.

1. Start With One Special Piece

For me, it was the vintage lace tablecloth.

I've collected white ironstone pitchers over the years, and this table was the perfect excuse to bring them all together.

White ironstone is one of my favorite decorating staples because it lets the flowers and seasonal colors really shine.

3. Don't Be Afraid to Fake Height

One of my favorite decorating tricks is also one of the easiest.

The tallest pitcher in the center is actually sitting on top of a vintage book. The smaller pitchers were placed on stacks of ironstone bowls and plates to create even more variation.

No one notices what's underneath, but everyone notices how much more balanced the centerpiece feels.

4. Use Faux Florals with Seasonal Fruit

The centerpiece is filled with my DIY faux strawberry stems, while the smaller pitchers hold raspberry bunches.

I love how the berries instantly make everything feel like summer without needing huge floral arrangements.

The pops of red look beautiful against the crisp white pitchers, and the greenery ties everything together.

It might seem like a tiny detail, but layering fabrics gives the centerpiece warmth and texture while introducing another pattern without overwhelming the table.

Vintage-inspired candlesticks tucked throughout the arrangement finish everything off and help create that cozy cottage feel.

6. Build Your Place Settings One Layer at a Time

Layering dishes is one of my favorite ways to make everyday collections feel special.

Here's how each place setting came together:

• Scalloped charger
• Vintage-inspired green floral transferware dinner plate
• White scalloped salad plate
• Green ticking stripe napkin
• Vintage ironstone scalloped dessert plate
• A single white faux flower as the finishing touch'

The green floral pattern ties in beautifully with the gingham linens and the leafy strawberry stems, while the white ironstone keeps everything feeling light and fresh.

7. Repeat Your Colors Around the Room

One trick that helps any tablescape feel professionally styled is repeating your colors beyond the table.

At the head of the table, I draped a floral throw blanket over the chair and added a green-and-white striped ruffle pillow.

The pink hobnail glasses echo the soft blush of the lace tablecloth, while the greens appear in the dishes, linens, leaves, and pillow.

Strawberries show up here in there in the pie safe and the hutch behind the table.

When your colors show up in multiple places, the entire room feels more pulled together.

My Favorite Part

As much as I love the berry centerpiece, I think my favorite part is knowing that this table came together from pieces I've collected over time.

The vintage tablecloth was only $12.

The pitchers were thrifted over the years.

The ironstone has been collected little by little.

None of it happened overnight, and I think that's exactly what gives the table its charm.

It's proof that beautiful spaces don't have to be expensive, they just need thoughtful layers and pieces you truly love.
