Big Girl Bedroom Makeover

It's been a long time coming, but I finally put the finishing touches on my little one's big girl bedroom and am super excited to share with you how it all came together!

The best part of the process was that I was able to use a lot of what I already had to finish off the room. It's always fun shopping your own house :) The only problem was trying to decide on a bed to use since her toddler bed was converted from a crib that our current baby is using. It was either buy a new crib or get a new bed. I figured it would be better to have a new bed than two cribs :)

Luckily I've had the opportunity to work with an amazing company in the past, and once again they pulled out all the great stuff for this bedroom! This canopy bed is compliments of DHP Furniture. I was looking from something obviously a little girly and one with some rails in hopes that it would detour some amount of occurrences of falling off the bed. This bed fit all the criteria, and most of all, my little girl LOVED it. I would show pictures to her, telling her that this was the bed she was going to get and she just couldn't stop talking about it.

I did have a tough time finding a mattress for this. The twin mattress we had was way to tall since it was a pillowtop and also a little to small, leaving gaps everywhere. So, of course as a concerned mom, that wasn't going to work. The mattress we ultimately ended up getting is from Signature Sleep, the Memoire 8. We have the Memoire 12 on our bed and love it! So, I figured it would be a great bed for our girl too. You can check out the video at the bottom of the post for how it comes shipped in a box and my unboxing of it :)

For the canopy curtains, I used some curtains I found at Ikea. They were about $4 a pair. I had them draped and tied up in a cute little bow for a little bit, but ultimately my sanity got the best of me and I decided to keep it simple and cut them to fit. I then used some of the left over scraps to tie a bow and secure them.

The bedding is from Target. It's actually really cute when it's all draped. The two larger pillows are from Home Goods. And the mirror was from her nursery and was actually passed down from my mom. I had it in my bathroom growing up, so it's fun seeing it in here now :)

I wanted to do something above the board and batten, like a polka dot wall, but decided to keep it simple. But it still felt blank. I found these cute little sayings from Hobby Lobby that fit great! And went with the color scheme wonderfully.

Here's a little peak into this corner. All of these items (besides the owl) were from storage or her original nursery.

The chair was a mother's day present from my husband 3 years ago. I moved it out of the living room a few months back and thought it would be great in here. The nightstand was my old one before I made the apothecary cabinet. I used that tray years ago for jewelry and it has been in storage for years. I'm glad I was able to bring it back :)

And the lamp was from her nursery also. I had bought it from Target for a song awhile back. My husband broke the top off but you can't even tell :) And the owl. I was afraid she would be frightened of this thing, but she loves it. I was actually planning on moving it, but she freaked out when I suggested it. So, there it stays lol

I was tempted to move this little 'mobile' since she no longer looks up at it mesmerized like she did when she was a baby. But, I just couldn't bare losing it from her room. I knew the space would look so empty without it. They will probably stay there until she's a teenager lol :)

As for the other half of her room, it's a little cluttered...or so it looks in the picture. But in reality, it feels just right.

My little girl loves to play 'tea party', so I knew I wanted to create a spot for that in this room. I didn't have much room to do so but I squeezed it in :) These chairs are also from DHP Furniture. They are the Fusion Metal Dining Chairs in white. I have great plans for them when it gets warmer outside too! But, until then, they look so cute in here :) and they are her perfect little height.

The table is actually just one from Ikea that I hot glued some left over curtain mesh onto. I wasn't so fond of the metal chairs with the metal table, so I had to girl it up a little bit ;)

The artwork in this little corner is also from Hobby Lobby. The E is from Home Goods and the orchid was picked out by my little girl from Ikea.

The pillow fabric is from Hobby Lobby also.

As for what sits on her dresser...it's mostly mementos. The purple bear was the first stuff animal she ever picked out on her own from a cute little shop by us. She would not let go of that thing. I think it cost $20 or so, which is like way above what I would normally spend. But she had it in her crib ever since we bought it.

There's her ultrasound picture in the frame, and her dress from her blessing hanging up. That flower print on the wall is just fabric wrapped around an old frame I had lying around.

I made this ladder for her nursery along with those frames and just couldn't bare to part with them either. It's probably what makes this area feel cluttered, but a mom has a choice to hold on to these things, right? :)

This is oddly one of my favorite parts of her room. This was also in the nursery but I don't think it ever made it to the blog. That dresser I got free from a neighbor and painted it. The box holds all her first drawers and handprints and what not. The bear was mine from when I was a little girl.

And the butterflies I bought from Target awhile ago. I also made that frame along with the other two hanging on the ladder.

And there you have it! This room just makes me so happy walking into it, especially with the curtains and blinds open and the sun just pouring in. It's so bright in here. I could probably stay in here all day.

As for my cost for this room? It was minimal, thanks to DHP :)
Artwork: $50
Bedding: $50ish
Curtains: $16

Once again, here's the link to purchase this adorable bed frame from Amazon :)

Want a crazy before picture? This is before the nursery and when I used it as a guest room. Like the first month we moved into the house :)
Here's the unboxing of our mattress! Yep. It comes in a box. Amazing, huh? :)
