Don’t you love a good upcycled craft? I’m always looking at everyday items and wondering what they could become instead of tossing them — which is probably why my basement looks the way it does, haha. Today I’m sharing a simple and creative DIY project using something most of us throw away all the time… jar lids! We’re turning mason jar lids, spaghetti sauce lids, and recycled lids into adorable DIY fridge magnets using cardstock and decoupage. It’s an easy, budget-friendly craft that’s perfect for farmhouse kitchens, cottage-style homes, and anyone who loves a good trash-to-treasure project. I’ll walk you through three different lid options so you can make your own cute handmade magnets in no time.
Supplies:
Cardstock (cute options here)
Paint brush
Ribbon
Mini-clothes pins
First off, gather your lids. These spaghetti jars have been sitting in my food storage a little past their shelf life as you can see. I grabbed the lids off of those as well as some two piece mason jar lids, and one piece mason jar/jam lids.

Step 1:This is for the full lids. Trace around the lid onto the cardstock and cut it out. I cut it out inside the line because you need to make it just a little smaller than the lid itself.
Step 2:
Step 2:
Add decoupage to the inside of the lid, then place the cardstock piece on top of it.
Step 3:
Add the decoupage to the cardstock, use a bit to get a good cover on it.
I used multiple lids and different patters of cardstock. This helped with options for gluing some together, and adding ribbon later.

Step 4:
Add ribbon as you wish! Either with bows or around the edge.
Hot glue magnets onto the back!
Mason Jar Lid Magnets - two piece lids
Step 1:
Add Rub 'n Buff to the inside piece's edge. Mine was originally red; I just used a small paint brush to apply it. Didn't have to be too nice and in the lines :)
Step 2:
Step 2:
Using the outside piece of the two piece lid, trace the inside circle on cardstock and cut it out.
Step 3:
Step 3:
Add a magnet with hot glue to the backs or grab the kind that has the adhesive already on it.
Step 7:
Add ribbon bows to the lids with hot glue
Here's the lot of them all done. Now to get them on my fridge :)
I added mini clothespins to these ones. They will be perfect to hold bills or children's drawings.
Here are ones I glued together to make a trio.
Here's a look at the one piece mason jar lids. I actually found these ones on Amazon. I added a cute long bow to give it more cottage vibes.

I played around with different ideas. They are fun all together, just by themselves, or in threes!

Now to go figure out what to do with all those jars! Let me know if you make these. I would love to see them in the comments!
