My favorite summer memories are my kids doing lemonade stands. Well, recently it's been a root beer float stand... but still! This is where childhood memories are formed. Instead of using a foldable table, I decided to turn an old broken nightstand I had into a cute little DIY lemonade stand for my kiddos. It's not too heavy, so I can take it out easily... although I think I'll be adding wheels soon :)
Here's the before. My friend gave me this and it was already broken and missing the bottoms of the shelves. I'm not even sure if it ever had drawers. The only shelf that actually worked was the top one. But that was okay! It turned out to be the perfect lemonade stand makeover.
Step 1: Paint It Fresh
First, I painted it with Behr's Swiss Coffee—a great soft white that adds instant charm to any repurposed furniture piece.
Step 2: Add a Curtain for Hidden Storage
I then added a tension rod and a cafe-style curtain using some linen fabric. This hid the extra storage... and the ugly missing shelves :)
Step 3: Add Storage for Cups and Supplies
I did add some wood onto those missing bottom shelves so baskets can be placed in there. My kids use this for their money, extra cups, and napkins, etc.
Step 4: Frame the Stand with Molding
I then added a 1x4 piece of white molding to the sides using screws and nails. This is about 4' tall and gives the stand that classic lemonade stand silhouette.
Step 5: Hang a DIY Bunting Banner
To add the bunting, I added a screw to the top of each molding piece and tied a ribbon from one end to the other with some cut-out black paper bunting.
Step 6: Use the Top Shelf for Extra Treats
The top shelf is for extra cookies or whatever my kids end up putting there. Sometimes stickers that are for sale or random origami haha.
Step 7: Chalkboard Sign for Pricing
I also added a screw to one of the sides of the molding to hold a chalkboard sign.
I found my sign at Hobby Lobby a few years ago, but they don't carry it anymore. I saw this cute one on Amazon though that I think would look so cute! It's 11x13, so the perfect size.
Cookie & Drink Ideas for Your Stand
The cookie selection changes all the time, but today's is sugar cookie. Sometimes when it's a big batch, I put them in the wicker tray below on top of doilies.
Lemonade is of course a favorite, but have you tried lemonade with Sprite or 7-Up? It's a hit around here! Also, the root beer floats I mentioned earlier. My kiddos sold those for $3 and made a huge profit!
Create a Cozy Selling Spot for the Kids
I like to use these chairs for them by the stand since they match so perfectly. I then even roll out a large patio umbrella at times to give them shade. It's like moving sometimes haha... so it makes it super easy when it's just outside on the sidewalk or in the backyard with their friends.
This easy dresser-to-lemonade-stand makeover took very little time and made a big impact on our summer. It’s light enough for me to move, and with the addition of wheels (coming soon!), it’ll be even easier to roll out for pop-up stands with the neighbors.
This little stand makes my kids feel proud, gives them a chance to earn some money, and helps create those core childhood memories we all cherish. And best of all? It cost almost nothing to make!
