Wow, where has the past 4 months gone?! More so, where has the first weeks of spring gone? 💮We are already into mid-April and I have yet to share with you my spring dining room...until now! It's been a crazy spring for me so far, and sadly, lots of projects and even my house are being neglected. I finally got a chance to play around in my dining room, clean it, and move things around. Spring is such a good time to change things up and add something new.
I decided it as about time to change my wall decor, and throw in some different chairs. This beautiful cathedral window was found for a steal for $40! I love how it goes so well together with my other fave cathedral windows from Antique Farmhouse.
Decorating my spring dining room centerpiece took a couple of attempts. It came all together when I added the swag of garland. I corralled the candlesticks into this cute vintage fruit crate. All of these candlesticks and even the vases are from Hobby Lobby. This area is all about layers!
I added some extra layering and texture with this awesome macrame table runner.
Decorating this buffet is always fun! This year, it felt like it took some time to get it together. I found all these awesome vintage smashers (some new!) and wanted to display them. It felt forced and jumbled, but I think separating them helped. Funny enough, I had more stuff than this on the buffet. Editing out actually helped me feel more at peace with the look. Sometimes you just have to take away, no matter how much it hurts :)
I have a lot of collections going on in this corner of my dining room. The bowls, mashers, plates, napkins...rolling pins. I had to stop collecting all these things, especially the vintage rolling pins. I ran out of space! Maybe I just need a bigger crock for those rolling pins :)
Here's the look of this space with the place settings out....and a better look at all those vintage wood chairs. I found each of them for $5. The middle one is a fave found at an old barn sale. The other two were weathering away outside of a local thrift store. It may not be everyone's cup of tea adding super old and pretty much junk chairs to their dining room table, but I love the character they bring.
The place settings were a long time in the making! I've had my eyes set on these itty-bitty tobacco baskets for a year or so now, but couldn't find any for a decent price. I needed 8 to complete my whole table (even though I only used 6 for these pictures). That's a lot of money when you times something by $8..haha. I finally found these at Hobby Lobby in their spring collection for a decent price. I then went on a hunt...seriously a hunt.... for these Better Homes and Gardens bowls from Walmart. I received a couple of cups and a serving bowl last year for Mother's day and fell in love with the look. I needed 8 matching bowls, and all the stores by me either had at most 2. You can't tell, but way in the corner, there's a special scalloped one that doesn't match :) I will find that very last one! I hope :)
I added some dried lavender to complete the spring place setting. The white and natural textures alternating just makes my heart sing :)
A few weeks ago, I had this place decorated with no greenery. It was shortly after I had taken down my winter greens. It looked so empty! It looked weird just having wood and whites. I definitely consider greens my favorite accent color...almost close to a neutral. The extra layer that wreaths and just a green garland swagged across the table does wonders.
Tips for adding spring touches to your dining room:- Change something up! Add new pillows, a new throw blanket, table runner, or go big and change up the decor on the wall.
- Add greenery or flowers. I'm not a flower type girl, but I love faux greenery! I add some to my spring centerpiece by snaking it through some candlesticks.
- Go bright and light! Use lighter or more neutral colors. If you want to add a accent color, go with pretty greens, yellows and pinks.
- Add something special to the place settings. This year, I added dried lavender and the small square tobacco basket. I've also used magnolia leaves, small wreaths, and wood beads.
- Change up your table runner for something lightweight or bright. I went a little different with mine this year and added this macramé table runner. (link) It added so much character and texture! If you want edit and go lighter, take the table runner out completely and just add a couple of big vases or jars.
- Layer. This is my rule for every season. Layering with wreaths with wall decor even down to layering with the spring centerpiece and place settings.
- Keep the over all look to two main tones and then in an accent color. My two tones/colors are whites and brownish neutrals. My accent color is green. Keeping the colors simple allows you to add more layers without it looking like too much. It's also calmer on the eye.
