After 2 years...seriously (may have even been closer to 3)...my "new" chandelier is finally up!
You guys, I bought this pretty beaded chandelier almost three years ago. Brought it home and was so excited to get it put up in my dining room. My husband gets home and tells me there is no way he would ever put that up in our house. Let me rephrase that.... He said, "There's no way I'm ever hanging a taxicab driver's seat cover in my house." haha. Yep. He hated it. Absolutely hated it. I guess he didn't see the appeal of these beaded chandeliers like most of us do.
So, I had a problem. There's one thing that I don't touch, and that's anything to do with the electricity. I'll save that for someone who knows what they are doing. So...I asked and asked for him to help, and it was a resounding NO every time....and also the reminder that it looks like a beaded car seat cover. So.... I finally took it out of the room, and placed it in my basement. That's where it had been for the past couple of years.
I tried to slyly ask a friend's husband to put it up for me. He saw through it, and said only if my husband said yes. I guess there's like a man code about not doing projects in another man's house without his permission? Anyway. Totally backfired. I was about to pay an electrician to do it, but then that would negate all my savings on this thing. Finally, after years and years of the battle with hanging this thing, I realized something. I needed to ask him in a way that was almost impossible to turn down. So.... I asked him to hang it as my Mother's Day present. I said, "I really don't want anything; you don't have to buy me a single thing. Just hang that chandelier." And guess, what? He did.
...but in the wrong room.
As I said previous, I wanted it in my dining room. He hung it in my front living room. I was so crazy excited to get out of bed the next day because I knew he was working on it since half the lights were off in the house. I got into my dining room, and it wasn't there. Like seriously, my heart sank. It was like Christmas morning for me and then all my hope was lost. I ventured through the house like half an hour later and quickly noticed where it ended up.
So, here's the thing. I didn't hate it in here. I didn't really love it because it wasn't what I had envisioned. But, I told him to leave it in there to see if I could get used to it. I felt like it was just too big for the space; not too mention too busy. There's a lot going on in here.
I decided that if all of the chain was gone, and we hung it as high as we could, I could live with it.

What made me realize this mistake was a happy little mistake was when I turned on the lights at night, and saw this starburst on the ceiling. I'm not sure I could have lived with that in my dining room. Our dining room lights are always on at night, and this would have drove me nuts. The lights in here are hardly ever on, and I could live with this look for the short amount of time they may be on.
So .... my "new" chandelier has finally been hung after 3 years of trying! He's happy because it's in a place he doesn't venture into often, and I'm happy because...well, it's finally up! ha!
This beaded chandelier is from World Market. I waited for one of their sales and get it for a little over $100 (It's the smaller one, although it looks like they only have the larger one still in stock). I helped hanging this one, and the new one in my dining room ... (Yes, I had to still get one in there since this one that was meant to go in there ended up in here ) And because of my helping, I think I can probably figure out how to hang the next one by myself... or with a little help from youtube :) What do you think of it? Is it now out of style? ha! Too bad if it is, it's totally staying up now!
I always love a good before and after.... so, here's a before of this room about 10 years ago...this was when my living room sectional was brand new and in a lot better condition that it is in now haha ;)
