How To Refinish Wood Patio Furniture

I was provided product by DecoArt and compensated to write about this project, but all thoughts, opinions, and ideas are my own :)

I redid my patio a few years ago, but never got around to refinishing my patio furniture. We've had our patio furniture for about 7 or so years now and it shows! I made new cushion covers for the set about 5 years ago and those too needed to be replaced. All in all, my patio looked like a hot mess :)

But, a couple coats of paint and some new covers changed that! Today, I'm sharing with you how I refurbished the set. If you look in the above picture, you can see all the wear and tear on the arms of the chairs and the table. I was actually tempted to by a whole new set, but decided that the actual furniture was still in really good condition.

To start, I sanded the old finish, or what was left of it, off the set.
I then had to choose the paint. I used DecoArt's American Decor Outdoor Living line. This paint is great for outdoor decor and I don't have to seal it! It works on great on wood, metal and terracotta.

I was looking for a specific tone and color of blue, a super dark navy. So, to achieve this look I actually ended up mixing two paint colors from DecoArt's American Decor Outdoor Living line. I used one 8 ounce tub of Morning Glory and mixed it with 15 tablespoons of Iron Gate. It gave me the richest and prettiest navy blue.

As for the tray, it was a indoor metal tray that got left outside all winter. There was no reviving this tray without a coat of paint. I used the prettiest color on it also from the DecoArt AmericanaDecor Outdoor Living line, Wildflower.

I just love how the colors pop against each other.

The vase color is from the same line, it was just a terracotta pot and I painted it with Picket Fence.

Here's my little photo bomber in this picture :) He just sat or laid there pretty much the whole time I was taking pictures...how can you move him?? :)

Here's the patio from this angle. Painting all those spindles became quite the task, but it was worth it in the end.

I was afraid to sit in the chairs before. Serious. I was afraid of all sorts of creepy crawlies coming out. But, now they look so inviting!

I'll share with you in a new post about how I did the drop cloth cushion covers. But, until then, be sure to check out DecoArt and their social media for more inspiration!
