Tips For A Great Master Bedroom Refresh

Do you have those weeks...months...that you don't ever feel like cleaning up a space? Or making a bed? I have that quite frequently with my master bedroom. When I get that feeling, I know it's time for a refresh. My bedroom is usually in a state of chaos. It's the main place where everything happens, where all the laundry gets piled up, where clothes for the whole family ends up getting stashed, where any clutter from our main living spaces gets put until I find a permanent spot for them...it's just insanity in there, really. It's not a haven. So, when it gets like that and I can't handle it anymore, I'm all for making it feel new again. Which means, I'll be more apt to keep it clean and make the bed every once in awhile.

You don't have to spend a ton to get a space feeling new, and wanted, again. It just takes a few steps.

One of my main strategies for a bedroom refresh is cleaning off the nightstands and adding a new item or two to them. This could be changing out a lamp shade, replacing a lamp, adding a new vase or any other decor item. Sometimes just a good ol' declutter is all that is needed.

I also like changing out my rugs. I swap rugs throughout my house often to give a space a completely new feel. It was amazing what changing out this rug with our old living room rug did for this room. It is so much brighter!

Adding new accent pillows goes far in breathing new life into a space. I had the same accent pillows for a couple of years, so these new ones in the back were a long time coming.

Rearranging or adding new items to a wall also helps with a refresh. This little table just had a single framed picture above it, but replacing it with 3 mirrors bought on clearance created a completely new feel to the space.

I also switched out the chairs at the foot of the bed with a great bench that doubles as storage. With lack of storage space in our house, this was a definite need. It hides all the diapers and wipes, and it's pretty :)

Another great way to add some newness to a space is new curtains. I didn't change mine out this time around, but I know from my other rooms that new curtains are just like a new rug, they change the whole dynamic of the room.

My go-to item for a great bedroom refresh  is changing out the old duvet/comforter and replacing it with a new one like this one from Crane and Canopy. It's new to their line of already amazing duvets and it doesn't disappoint. It's simply amazing!

It's the Vienna White ruffle duvet and shams. It adds the perfect amount of chic ruffles. If you remember my last bedding, you know I like ruffles :) Luckily, these are the kind of frills my husband can handle unlike the craziness of the other one...although, luckily he didn't complain too much about them. Of course, our bed was hardly ever made so that probably helped.

The pillows and duvet are made from the highest quality extra long staple cotton, with 400 thread count weaves. I didn't know this, but apparently 1000 thread count isn't good even though it sounds good :) Apparently 300-400 thread count is the sweet spot for bedding sets since 1000 thread count uses such thin thread. Makes sense!

I have to admit something quite embarrassing now. Our old duvet was a Target find for $14...and you could tell. I have never slept on something so nice and luxurious as this new Vienna bedding. Plus, the Target bedding has seen better days, especially after 3 years with a dog and two kiddos. You can only imagine the stains lol. Thank goodness for bleach! Let's just say, that this new bedding couldn't have come at a better time. My old bedding also had buttons to close it...pain! Crane and Canopy bedding uses a hidden zipper at the bottom of the duvet, plus ties on each corner to keep the duvet in place.

If you aren't into ruffles, Crane and Canopy has a ton of other great duvets to fit your style. If you are cheap like me, you can get a two-fer with their reversible duvets! It's like two duvets in one. Their Nova duvet is a new design that was written up in the New York Times that has an innovative two-toned cover that unites the flat sheet and the duvet cover with a patented C&C signature Nova zipper enclosure for easy on and off. You can watch how the Nova can give you the perfectly made bed in minutes here. Great for husbands that give you excuses on why they can't make the bed ;)

  1. Crane & Canopy really does have some of the most fabulous duvets. I love the gorgeous one that I have. This one with ruffles that you have is stunning and I love the assortment of pillows too. Such a pretty room.

  3. Thanks for posting! I've been looking everywhere for a picture of this bedding in a "real" photo. Pics on the website are great but I love seeing how it lays on an actual bed, In an actual room. -- I didn't see a listing for where the blanket is from? Any suggestions on places for blankets that aren't crazy expensive?
