I saw a beautiful fall mantel on pinterest last year and I wish I could remember who did it, because it was just beautiful! If you guys know, let me know! I'm not sure how she made the flowers, but I loved the display of them; I think they were out of craft paper or something. Anyway.
That gave me my inspiration for my spring mantel.
I use to change up my mantel all the time, but as the years have gone buy it seems I usually keep the same staples....mainly books, lanterns, and vases. This subway art has found a nice little home there too. It matches perfectly with the rest of the room, so I can't part ways with it yet.
I decided to add a little flare this year with those paper flowers though. They are super easy...and well..super cheap to make. Pretty much free if you have paper laying around.
So to get started. I got a stack of printing paper and some scissors.
Found the middle, and then folded each side to touch the middle. This will give you three folds you can then cut out of.
I wanted three different sizes. The largest size was cut out of the side folds. Then I cut the smaller ones out of the middle fold. And you may have enough room to cut a smaller one out of a random part of the paper too.
So after cutting the first one and getting the size that I wanted. I folded a new stack of paper, traced the 'leaf' and cut them. I did this until I got a lot of leaves for all of the flowers:) I was able to make one flower out of about 6 pieces of paper.
Here are my different size leaves. Large, medium and small.
Next is to just use a glue stick and glue them all together. I started with the larger leaves first.
Then added the medium size ones.
Then the small ones. To create a middle piece, I just crumpled up some paper and glued that on also.
It adds the perfect amount of whimsy and spring to the mantel :)

The tutorial on the subway art can be found here. And that little nautical knot ball? I'll write a how to post about it soon. They are super easy and cheap to make!
Hope you all have a great Easter holiday this weekend! I'm sure I will :) I'm how old?...and my mom still makes us Easter baskets! lol. I love it. Mainly cuz she stuffs them full of robins eggs...mmmmm.
